Getting an online prescription

Need treatment for a current problem, or running low on a regular medicine? Start with the right care option. Quinn gathers your history, and a registered NZ clinician decides whether to prescribe.

Prescribed by a clinician. Supplied by your pharmacy.Quindlee provides the consultation and any approved prescription. Your chosen pharmacy dispenses the medicine and charges separately.

Which kind of prescription do you need?

A regular refill and a consultation for a current health problem start in different places. Each care page explains what the service covers before you sign in.

  1. Treatment for a current problemChoose the condition or symptoms you need help with. A prescription may be one possible outcome after assessment; it is not automatic. Find your condition or symptoms →
  2. A regular medicine refillFor an eligible medicine you already take. Sign in and choose who needs care to see the refill service available for them. Check regular medicine refills →
  3. Ongoing care with WeCareMedDirect is our annual care programme for eligible WeCare-enrolled patients with stable long-term conditions. See MedDirect eligibility and current availability →

From your request to your pharmacy

  1. Describe what you needAnswer Quinn’s questions in your own words. Confirm your medicines, allergies and saved details when asked.
  2. A clinician decidesYour clinician reviews the request and may prescribe, ask for more information or recommend a different next step.
  3. Collect from your pharmacyIf approved, the prescription is sent to your selected pharmacy. Check its opening hours, stock and collection arrangements directly.

What to have ready

For a refill, keep the pharmacy label handy so you can confirm the medicine name, strength and usual directions. For other care, the relevant page explains what information or photos are needed.

You will also need to complete the required identity check and choose a pharmacy. Read about identity verification.

Know the cost before you submit

Your consultation fee is shown before submission. When a fee applies, your card is authorised on submission and charged only if care is approved. Otherwise the hold is released.

The consultation fee and the pharmacy’s medicine or dispensing charges are separate. See consultation prices and current offers.

Where does an approved prescription go?

Quindlee sends it to the pharmacy you choose for that request. Your issued care documents are saved in My care. The pharmacy handles dispensing and can tell you when the medicine will be ready.

A clinician’s approval does not mean the pharmacy has already dispensed it. If you are planning a trip to collect medicine, check with the pharmacy first. If it cannot find the prescription, contact Quindlee support so we can help trace the request.

You can keep your usual GP. You choose whether to share the approved consultation summary with your usual practice.

Online prescription questions

Can I get a prescription without a video appointment?

Quindlee starts with a written conversation with Quinn, our AI assistant. A registered NZ clinician reviews your history and makes the prescribing decision. You do not book a video call to start. If the clinician needs more information or a different assessment, they will explain the next step.

Is a repeat prescription the same as a bridging prescription?

Our regular medicine refill page is the starting point for both repeat and bridging requests. The service available is confirmed for the person receiving care after sign-in, and a clinician decides the appropriate supply. Read the refill service’s scope and limits.

Is the medicine included in the consultation fee?

No. The consultation covers clinical care and any prescription the clinician approves. Your pharmacy supplies the medicine and applies its own charges. Ask the pharmacy about the cost before collection.

Does submitting a request guarantee a prescription?

No. Every request is assessed by a clinician. They may approve care, ask for more detail or recommend another service. When care is not approved, the consultation payment hold is released.

How quickly will my prescription be ready?

The current clinician review time is shown before you start and before submission. Pharmacy preparation is a separate step and depends on its opening hours and stock. Check with the pharmacy if collection timing matters to you.

Do I need to enrol with WeCare?

You can use Standard Quindlee care while keeping your usual GP. WeCare membership and MedDirect have separate enrolment requirements. Compare Standard care and membership.
